On Sunday, the UK’s crowned bright young thing, Craig Green, showed an autumn/winter collection that highlighted his developing maturity.
Back were the trailing straps, martial-arts wear references and medically crisp cotton. But his pallet expanded into leathers and other textures.
“A gathering of introspective dreamers,” was how he described it, yet there were also echoes of Laurence of Arabia, North-African nomads and Ice Cold in Alex.

Details, such as elasticated necklines, surprised and will offer interesting avenues when layered with more conventional pieces. The ‘unpicked rugby ball’ garments showed another tangent in his approach, dividing critics and fans.
But it was the tightrope on which Green balances between order and chaos that once again caused the most frisson. Garments constructed precisely from complex patterns, only to be deliberately infused with entropy – such as the silhouette created by this unfastened creation.
When it comes to the future of UK fashion, it certainly looks like the grass is still Craig Green.
